» Low Voltage Power Supply
and Override Control for Solenoid Water Valves : VLX
The VLX Valve Control Unit is normally used in conjunction with
an AQUALEAK Water Leak Detection system where there is a requirement
to shut off the water supply when a water leak is detected. The
Water Detection Unit is fitted with an alarm relay which provides
the signalling output to the VLX. The VLX is connected to mains
power supply and converts mains power to safe low voltage power
which operates the solenoid valve in the water supply pipe. The
Valve would be 24VAC and under normal operation would be held ‘powered
open’ via the alarm relay of the Water Detection Unit. When water
is detected the relay operates, power is taken off the valve, and
the valve immediately closes under spring pressure, turning off the
water.
The valve will remain shut and will be held shut following the
detection of a leak until such time as the Sensor zone dries out. In
view that repairs or clearing of an alarm could take some time, the
VLX Unit is provided with a Valve Key Switch Override System to
allow manual reset of the valve. Should the leak be considered not
to be a problem, and if the situation is under control, turning the
key to the ‘Override’ position would allow the water to be
turned on again even if the Water Detection System is still in ‘alarm’
and ‘holding’ the valve closed. The switch can also be used
under ‘normal’ operating conditions to turn the water off.
The VLX type Valve Control Unit can also be used as a stand-alone
controller for automatic timed water shutoff when the premises are
empty. The operation would be the same as for the water detection
application, except that a Timer would take the place the Relay. The
VLX-T Unit would automatically shut off the water when the premises
close for the night and then automatically switch the water back on
again before the premises open in the morning. The timer allows for
one or more shut-off periods during a 24 hour period, and allows for
separate adjustable shut-offs for the weekend period. Should water
be required during any shut-off period, it is simply a case of
turning the Key Switch Override System to ‘on’ to get water
flowing, and then switching it to ‘off’ to return to the
automatic shut-off periods. The VLX Unit is fitted as standard with
an output signalling relay which could advise a remote BMS System,
or other alarm systems, that the water has been switched off, or on.
